From Flight Bag to Chapter Badge: NolaBlu and the WIA Bayou Beacons

From Flight Bag to Chapter Badge: NolaBlu and the WIA Bayou Beacons

When I started NolaBlu, my mission was simple: create aviation products that actually speak to women who fly. I never imagined that mission would lead to my designs being selected for the very identity of a brand new chapter of Women In Aviation.

In 2024, I had the privilege of being involved in the formation ofthe Bayou Beacons, a new WAI chapter serving women aviators along the Gulf Coast. When the chapter needed a logo, I put together a badge signifying the chapter's gulf roots with a lone cypress tree next to a winding bayou. In the distance was a beacon guiding an airplane home. Having my design selected as the official Bayou Beacons chapter logo was one of the most meaningful moments in NolaBlu's short history. It wasn't just a design win,  it was a reminder of why this community matters and how representation in aviation can extend beyond the cockpit.

The connection didn't stop there. When Girls in Aviation Day arrived, once again I created and entered a design I thought would appeal to sky-seeking girls. The Bayou Beacons chose my t-shirt design to represent the chapter for their very first major celebration. Seeing these future aviators wearing a design I created,  for an event dedicated to celebrating them, was something I was most proud.

At NolaBlu, everything we make is rooted in the same belief that drives the Bayou Beacons: that women belong in aviation, and the gear, graphics, and community around them should reflect that.

If you're a woman in aviation on the Gulf Coast, I encourage you to look up the Bayou Beacons WAI chapter. And if you're looking for flight bags, apparel, and aviation gear designed with you in mind, you're already in the right place.
